Advanced Composition 302B Student Wiki - Advanced Composition 302-B Wiki

This Wiki is the English 302B student website for in-class writing aimed to prepare you for su
ccessful business communication. To simulate business situations, in-class writing will range from individual to collaborative projects.

This is your website...

[Untitled]A Wiki is an interactive website that allows students to write, design, and edit pages. You will be the primary contributors to site. As you contribute to pages throughout the course, keep in mind how visual design contributes to persuasion, tone, and credibility. You may upload photos, videos, widgets (YouTube videos or chat features), logos or banners (see Cooltext generator). You may create tables with colored backgrounds on a single or double column page layout. Adjust font size and color to fit the style of communication.

...search for ideas that fuel your passions...

View the Writing Resources page to begin your search. What information is
[Untitled]credible? Persuasive? What angers you? What do you want to do about it? How will you make a difference? Make sure your opinion is a well-researched one. Gaining knowledge and studying different perspectives is a good start to a successful career.

...and then share them with others.

A successful business involves effective communication, respect for community, and collaborative effort. Begin now! Feel free to add a page of business-related advice, helpful websites,
suggested resources, field-specific information, business contacts, etc. Develop a subject page such as "Advice for accounting students," "Ways to Get a Promotion at Work," or "How to Handle an Angry Customer" so that your classmates can contribute ideas to the page. To begin, select "Add a Page" below navigation bar on your left. By the end of the term, if you have demonstrated a progressive Wiki site contribution to inform and assist fellow classmates, I will award you extra participation points. Please make sure not to post any copyrightAdvanced Composition 302B Student Wiki - Advanced Composition 302-B Wikied images, text, or someone's personal contact information without permission. If you use a summary, paraphrase, or quote from another source, be sure to list the source on your page.

In-Class Assignment for September 21

Please type your answers on the class Wiki.

1. Read Sandra G. Boodman’s article “A Boy's Obesity Led His Mother to Send Him For Stomach Surgery,” which appeared in the February 24, 2009 issue of The Washington Post.

2. Review “slice handout 2009” that is posted on Blackboard.

3. Now, concentrate on the first page of the SLICE handout that reads, “How to Avoid Citation Errors When Working With Sources.” Your assignment is to choose one passage from Boodman’s article and quote it in the different styles listed on p. 1 of the SLICE sheet. The different styles are listed below. In your citation, please use the newspaper article’s page number. Remember that if you use someone’s quoted passage that appeared in the article, your citation would read (qtd. in Boodman).

1. Full Quotation With Correct In-Text Citation:

Cheryl Burrill says, “I had to do this for him, no matter what” (qtd. In

Boodman HE01).

This site is pretty difficult to use at a low resolution.... So much side-scrolling! :(
